Outgrown: Vancouver Sleep Clinic serenades Los Angeles

Written by Leah Lu The Bootleg Theater is a music venue that strikingly resembles the residential studios surrounding it. Sitting on the fringe of Echo Park and backdropped by the Los Angeles skyline, Beverly Boulevard felt like it was nestled in a suburb, quiet and littered with pharmacies, liquor stores and churches. The area is not glamorous and rather homely, a vibe that could not have been more fitting for Vancouver Sleep Clinic’s intimate, headlining show on Nov. 29. Upon arrival, one immediately notices the welcoming, almost familiar comfort of the Bootleg. The theater is spacious, its walls donned with exposed brick and cement. Down the hall there is a…

    Made in Hollywood

Written by Leah Lu LANY has become a household name at Biola. After drawing a large crowd at The Eddy last October, there’s been an indisputable connection between this campus and the three-piece synth-pop group. That link was evident at LANY’s sold-out Los Angeles dates of the closing leg of their “Kinda” tour. Several groups of Biola students were interspersed in the line that wrapped around Hollywood Boulevard outside of the historic Fonda Theater.  After doors opened on November 19th, Saturday night, the checkered floor of the venue gradually grew saturated with fans ranging from teenage girls to guys in their mid-twenties and, a personal favorite, a grown man repping…

Public Access TV’s “Never Enough” – a strong debut

Written by Tim Seeberger Hailing from the East Village in New York City, indie rock band Public Access T.V. warp the idea of New York City rock n’ roll and revitalize it in their debut album “Never Enough.” The album gives a sense of comfort and familiarity to rock n’ roll fans everywhere in the form of simplistic songs that depict a caring for the craft of creating honest music. In the ironic track, “End of an Era,” Earthly declares “the kids these days don’t like rock n’ roll.”  Public Access T.V. give a realistic effort in convincing listeners that, although the music scene moved away from the golden age…

    COED

Written by James O’Hearn In the parts of the world privileged enough to thoughtfully discuss society, again and again we keep coming back to the questions of equality and gender. Any and all can agree that men and women are different, biologically if nothing else. Does this mean that there are roles in society that one side can never have? Most cultures have certainly thought so for hundreds of years. But then again, most cultures have also oppressed women, often to a stomach-turning extent, for an equal span of time.In the parts of the world privileged enough to thoughtfully discuss society, again and again we keep coming back to the…

Written by Morgan Mitchell Have you ever thought about your future beyond Biola and quickly decided not to because of the sudden wave of anxiety that washes over you? It’s easy to panic over what exactly God’s plan is. Everyone’s heard phrases like “Give it to God” or “God will provide and open doors,” but as you prepare to enter the world you should prepare a wise response to them.Have you ever thought about your future beyond Biola and quickly decided not to because of the sudden wave of anxiety that washes over you? Coming to the Table

Written by Candace Guereque For years evangelicals have been reaching both near and far by serving the impoverished, educating youth and meeting people’s needs. While this type of ministry receives much attention, another more complex side of ministry is rarely talked about: ministries that convey the truths of the Bible in a more relational approach where friendship is the only agenda. For years evangelicals have been reaching both near and far by serving the impoverished, educating youth and meeting people’s needs. I Call You Friend

Written by Robert Heckert An adolescent David stalks to the battlefield, still panting from the exertion of killing Goliath. Immediately he is brought before King Saul, who demands to know who this young hero is. At first glance this seems to be a simple and straightforward discussion, but some- thing intriguing takes place afterwards. “As soon as he [David] had finished saying these things to Saul, the soul of Jonathan was knit to the soul of David, and Jonathan loved him as his own soul,” (1 Samuel 18:1). It was in that instant that the soul— the very being of Jonathan— somehow became linked to that of David’s. is bond…

    It Happened Here

Written by Torie Hamilton Biola is largely considered to be a safe school overall, with a foundational assumption that things like sexual assault are simply not an is- sue. However, despite what many students understand to be true, sexual assault remains a reality on and near Biola’s campus. A sexual assault occurred this March, when a student agreed to meet up at La Mirada Creek Park with someone she met on Yik Yak. Then, just in mid-April, a student was assaulted on a residential street near campus. For 2014, out of the over 6,000 students, two sexual assaults have been recorded, one occurring in November and the other in December,…

    A Letter from the Editor

Written by Alissa Sandoval When I got off the soccer field my breathing was erratic. It came in the rhythm of three uneven breaths. Sitting down had clearly become my next priority. My body usually responds this way after I do sprints or a large amount of running — the heat was not helping either. “You can barely breathe,” chimed my roommate with the usual look of concern on her face. I looked up, shrugged with a half-hearted smile and plopped to the ground. When I got off the soccer field my breathing was erratic. It came in the rhythm of three uneven breaths. It’s Complicated

Written by Olivia O’Brien Biola offers a different college experience than most universities. From day one, students are thrown into the “Biola Bubble,” a small, faith-based breeding ground for subcultures. Stick around campus long enough, and you cannot help but run into this particular topic nearly every student here finds interesting: Biola’s unique dating culture. To learn what Biola students think about dating, The Point polled 138 students in an online survey and pursued more extensive interviews with sources varying in gender, background and relationship status. From this data, The Point concluded the dating conversation is far more complex than what students tend to believe. About 80 percent of those…
